Position : Water and Habitat Premises Engineer - Juba (with Frequent Visits To Other Site

Purpose
The WatHab Premises Engineer 1 plans, designs, and implements engineering projects within the scope of the ICRC’s water and habitat objectives with supervision and coaching where necessary. S/he monitors on-site works, carries out needs assessments and surveys, and proposes, plans, develops, and implements new projects. S/he has a close working relationship with external stakeholders related to their projects.
 
Functional Responsibilities

  • Responsible for on-site follow-up and design of engineering projects, with supervision and guidance from the WatHab Premises Team Leader, or other project leaders.
  • Draws up documents (drawings, bills of quantities, contracts, etc.) for engineering projects using approved formats; monitors project implementation for compliance with project documents, ICRC standards and guidelines, and local building codes/standards, ensuring corrective action is taken where necessary.
  • Supervises contractors working on project sites and conducts quality control of infrastructure constructed or supported by the ICRC.
  • Creates project files in electronic databases and keeps them up to date.
  • Prepares implementation/progress reports.
  • Provides regular information to colleagues on security, stakeholder issues and site progress.
  • Manages project purchasing on labour and materials according to the delegation's financial rules.
  • Administers hand-over of ICRC-provided infrastructure to end-users.
  • Trains or organizes training for end-users in the operation and maintenance of infrastructure constructed or renovated by the ICRC.

Certification/experience and skills required.
   

  • University degree in civil or structural engineering, architecture or similar.
  • Excellent command (spoken and written) of English, proficient in spoken Arabic, knowledge of other local languages an asset.
  • Proficient in use of drawing software (AutoCAD, ZWCAD, or similar) and MS Office and project-management suite or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years' professional experience in construction or a related field of activity.
  • Familiarity with the standard norms and rules in construction, local techniques and requirements for construction.
  • Experience in assessing, surveying, calculating, and preparing estimates and technical drawings of buildings.
  • Good knowledge of construction engineering, and water and sanitation systems.
  • Experience of international organizations an asset
