Position : Vacancy: Executive Secretary (at CEO level) - Pretoria, South Africa

ATAF is looking for its next leader who will build on the current success and take the organisation to its next level.
ATAF has been at the centre of Tax Administration and Policy Reform Programmes and Domestic Resource Mobilisation on the African continent for the past 15 years.
ATAF has also been the Voice of Africa on tax matters both on the continent and internationally. Given this significant role the organisation is now in search of its next Executive Secretary who will be able to provide the necessary strategic leadership and direction to ensure that ATAF fulfils its mandate of building efficient and effective tax administrations, and continues to be the leading tax organ on the continent, rooted in Africa, for Africa. The person being sought will –

  • Provide vision, and strategic and managerial leadership to the ATAF Secretariat.
  • Guide and direct the organisation’s key programmes such as Member Services, Domestic Resource Mobilisation and Africa Multilateral Cooperation.
  • Facilitate strategic engagements with other key role-players and partners and actively maintain these and existing relationships and networks in order to communicate the African tax Agenda in the global tax arena.
  • Build, lead and motivate a multicultural, multidisciplinary team of subject-matter experts, representative of ATAF member countries, who are responsive to the needs of member countries.
  • Fulfil the financial fiduciary responsibilities through the implementation of good corporate governance principles at all times.
  • Drive the Financial Sustainability Strategy of the organisation
  • Provide innovation in responding to organisational and stakeholder needs.
  • Be actively involved in current continental and global tax matters.

Required profile for job ad : Vacancy: Executive Secretary (at CEO level) - Pretoria, South Africa

  • A demonstrated knowledge of and passion for the development of revenue administration systems in Africa.
  • Significant experience in successful stakeholder engagement across a diverse stakeholder base.
  • Good understanding of, and preferably experience in, taxation and tax administration.
  • Experience in and understanding of international relations and multilateral organisations.
  • Substantive experience of at least 10-15 years at Senior and Executive Management Level with at least 5 years of Board/Council engagement
  • Knowledge of and experience in Tax Policy and/or Tax Administration Management.
  • An ISCED/NQF level 9 (Master’s Degree) qualification in Tax Policy, Tax Administration, Financial Management or similar is required.
  • Fluency in English is an essential requirement. 
  • Ability to communicate in Portuguese and/or French is an advantage.
  • The Applicant must be in possession of a valid Driver’s license.
  • It is essential that the Applicant be able to travel locally and internationally.
