Position : Senior Telecommunications Engineer - Harare

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Telecommunications Engineer with 7+ years of hands-on experience to design, implement, and maintain advanced telecommunications networks. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in network architecture, transmission systems, and telecom protocols, and will play a key role in ensuring reliable, high-performance communication infrastructure for our organisation.
This role is suited for a proactive, solution-oriented professional capable of managing complex projects, troubleshooting critical issues, and contributing to strategic network expansion initiatives.
Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and optimize telecommunications networks including fiber, wireless, and IP-based systems
  • Plan, configure, and maintain telecom equipment, switches, routers, and transmission systems
  • Conduct network performance monitoring, fault diagnosis, and preventive maintenance
  • Lead technical projects, upgrades, and system integrations
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business requirements and network expansion
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
  • Evaluate new technologies and recommend solutions to improve network efficiency and reliability
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and proposals for management and clients

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in telecommunications engineering or network design
  • Strong knowledge of transmission protocols, switching systems, IP/MPLS, 4G/5G networks, and fiber-optic technologies
  • Experience with telecom network planning, troubleshooting, and optimization tools
  • Proficiency in network simulation, monitoring, and diagnostic software
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management capabilities

Preferred Skills & Certifications

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent
  • Certified Telecommunications Network Specialist (CTNS) or similar
  • Experience with emerging 5G, IoT, or SDN/NFV technologies
  • Project management certification (PMP or Prince2)
