Reporting to the Plant Maintenance Superintendent, the Senior Mechanical Supervisor is responsible for all plant mechanical maintenance, day to day site management, work programming, material management, contractor liaison, and site OH & S. The role will also liaise with planning, electrical, metallurgy and operations department to ensure all maintenance tasks are executed in time and according to standard work practices. Provide direction on daily duties to all under your supervision to ensure safety standards are met, hold weekly safety meetings, review SOP’s for improvement and demonstrate visible safety leadership.
Responsibilities:
General
- Leading, developing and mentoring a group of mechanical maintenance personnel to complete quality work safely and efficiently.
- Ensure direct reports have clear understanding of their responsibility’s and have the resources available to accomplish outcomes
- Establish strong working relationships with interdepartmental peer group
- Execute maintenance plans and schedules in a cost effective manner
- Ensure safety standards of supervised employees are meet by holding weekly safety meetings, reviewing procedures and through visible safety leadership.
- Execute and reinforce the health and safety program
- Monitor equipment status and accurately use CMMS system to perform daily duties
- Ensure direct reports are performing jobs to plan and that daily maintenance targets are achieved
- Ensuring all maintenance mechanical works are completed in a safe manner and in compliance with established safe work procedures and systems.
- Responding to and managing unscheduled maintenance work so that impact on the operation is minimised.
Budget and Financial Support
- Work with the Plant Maintenance Superintendent to establish an operating budget.
- Ensure all charges remain within budget, report on cost variances and identify cost savings opportunities.
- Plan, approve and monitor any expenditure under your authority.
Compliance / Quality Control
- Promote and adhere to appropriate internal methodologies, policies, procedures and standards.
- Consistently maintain a high quality of work within the maintenance team.
- Provide input regarding improvement opportunities and areas of risk.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements (including Company Policy, Standards, and Procedures) through training and development of staff and promoting by example.
Staff Development
- Develop appropriate selection criteria for the positions within the Maintenance team.
- Ensure personnel have the appropriate equipment, licenses, skills, induction and training to safely undertake their tasks.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of the team to identify areas requiring improvement and implement training and coaching measures to ensure employees receive sufficient training enabling them to perform their duties in a safe and efficient manner.
- Promote and develop the skills of subordinates through the transfer of technology and skill development through on-the-job training programs.
- Conduct formal career development discussions with employees and identify development opportunities and programs that assist with defining future career progression possibilities.
- Encourage and facilitate effective and supportive communication between all team members and related departments.
Safety Management
- Demonstrate personal commitment in regard to safety and environmental and Social Responsibility practices.
- Ensure every person within the team is fit for work.
- Ensure that agreed procedures, safeguards and controls are applied and used.
- Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with Company standards and procedures
- Ensure hazard management plans are observed.
- Keep statutory and internal reporting as required.

Requirements:
- Minimum Diploma, Certificate IV or Mechanical Trade qualified or similar.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in mechanical field associated with fixed plant maintenance.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience and a supervisory role
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a senior supervisor role
- Proven ability to lead multicultural workforce
- Experience on pumps, valves, crushers, mills, vibrating screens, conveyors, pipe fitting
- Solid understanding of Maintenance planning and execution
- Demonstrated ability to organize, direct and supervise
- French language skills desired, not essential
- Experience within the mining sector in Africa or remote work locations
- Working experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
- Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation and build effective relationships and networks
- Possesses strong training and mentoring skills with the ability to develop an effective team
- Demonstrates strong conceptual skills, and be capable of developing lateral and practical solutions
