Position : Senior Accounts Receivable - Remote

Western Governors University College (WGU College) is seeking a Senior Accounts Receivable Specialist to manage and oversee all aspects of the accounts receivable process in a fully remote environment. This role is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate invoicing, collections, reconciliation, and reporting of receivables. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience working in an educational or service-based organization.
Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the full accounts receivable process, including billing, collections, and reporting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.
  • Monitor outstanding balances and follow up on overdue accounts to minimize financial risk.
  • Develop and implement collection strategies while maintaining positive relationships with students and partners.
  • Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Prepare financial reports, aging analysis, and other receivables-related documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, institutional policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in system improvements, automation, and process optimization for better efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the finance and accounting teams to support audits and financial planning.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in accounts receivable, preferably in higher education or service industries.
  • Certifications: CPA, CMA, or other relevant accounting certifications are a plus.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of accounts receivable processes, financial reporting, and reconciliation.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, or similar).
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial databases.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills for handling collections professionally.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education finance, student billing, or edtech accounting.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance for tuition payments and financial aid.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and process automation tools.
