Position : Senior Accountant – Pharmaceutical Company - Masvingo

We are looking for a Senior Accountant – Pharmaceutical Company.
Job Summary
The Senior Accountant will manage, coordinate, and oversee the full accounting and financial reporting functions of the pharmaceutical company. You will ensure accurate financial records, compliance with statutory and industry regulations (including IFRS), support budgeting and forecasting, and provide strategic financial insights to senior management. You will also mentor junior finance staff and enhance internal control procedures to support business growth and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Prepare and review accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS and local tax regulations.
  • Maintain and monitor the general ledger, reconciliations, and balance sheet accounts.
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing processes and ensure timely submission of reports.
  • Ensure financial transactions comply with company policies, pharmaceutical industry standards, and statutory requirements.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis

  • Assist in preparation and monitoring of annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Perform financial analysis to support decision-making, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor cash flow, cost of goods sold, and inventory accounting relevant to pharmaceutical operations.

Compliance, Control & Audit

  • Maintain and improve internal controls to safeguard company assets and enhance financial integrity.
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors and support audit activities with needed documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, tax, and regulatory requirements, including VAT, PAYE, and industry-specific reporting.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Mentor and guide junior accountants and finance staff, including setting objectives and KPIs.
  • Train team members on accounting processes, systems, and compliance standards.
  • Provide constructive feedback and support career development within the accounting function.

Business Partnering

  • Work closely with procurement, supply chain, and operational departments to ensure financial processes support business needs.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to management to influence strategic decisions.

Qualifications & Skills
Academic & Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
  • Professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA (Z), CA Zambia, or equivalent (strongly preferred).

Experience

  • Minimum 5–7 years of relevant accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or similar regulated industry.
  • Experience in financial reporting, budgeting, audit coordination, and compliance.
  • Prior experience supervising accounting staff is an advantage.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in ERP and accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of IFRS, local tax laws, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
