Position : Safety Manager - Kampala
We are looking for a Safety Manager.
The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs to ensure a safe workplace and compliance with regulatory requirements. This role leads safety initiatives, conducts audits and training, and partners with plant leadership to reduce risks, prevent incidents, and promote a strong safety culture across the manufacturing facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage plant-wide safety policies, procedures, and programs.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations (e.g., OSHA).
- Conduct routine safety audits, inspections, and hazard assessments across the facility.
- Lead incident investigations, root-cause analyses, and corrective action follow-ups.
- Coordinate safety training for employees, contractors, and new hires.
- Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics (TRIR, near-miss reports, safety observations).
- Support risk assessments for new equipment, processes, and facility modifications.
- Maintain safety documentation, permits, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and HR to drive continuous improvement in safety practices.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, communication, and recognition programs.
- Manage emergency response procedures and conduct regular drills.
- Oversee PPE program, safety supplies, and contractor safety management.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field. (Certifications like CSP, ASP, or OSHA training preferred.)
- 5+ years of experience in safety management within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, hazard identification, and safety management systems.
- Experience conducting incident investigations and implementing corrective actions.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and influence safe behaviors.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with ISO 45001 or similar HSE management systems.
- Knowledge of environmental compliance (air, waste, wastewater).
- Training in Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement principles.
Work Environment
- Primarily on-site role with regular time spent on the production floor.
- May require off-shift or weekend availability based on operational needs.
