Position : Product Development Manager - Nairobi

We are looking for a Product Development Manager.
Overview
The Product Development Manager will lead the creation, formulation, and launch of innovative beauty and personal-care products. This role oversees the entire product lifecycle—from concept development and market research to formulation, testing, packaging, and commercialization—ensuring products meet brand standards, regulatory requirements, and consumer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Planning

  • Identify market trends, consumer insights, and innovation opportunities in the beauty and personal-care sector.
  • Define product concepts, briefs, and development roadmaps aligned with brand strategy.
  • Partner with marketing, R&D, and manufacturing teams to ensure feasibility and competitive positioning.

Product Development & Formulation

  • Oversee formulation work with internal labs or external manufacturers.
  • Evaluate ingredients, sustainability options, and cost targets.
  • Review prototypes, stability tests, and safety assessments to ensure high-quality results.

Project Management

  • Manage multiple product development timelines from concept to launch.
  • Facilitate cross-functional communication across R&D, procurement, packaging, marketing, and operations.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, specifications, and testing requirements.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all products meet regulatory standards (FDA, EU, etc.) and internal quality guidelines.
  • Coordinate safety testing, claim substantiation, and compliance approvals.
  • Support quality teams in resolving formulation or production issues.

Packaging & Manufacturing Coordination

  • Collaborate on packaging design, functionality, and material selection.
  • Work with supply chain and production teams to ensure manufacturability, sourcing, and cost optimization.

Launch Support

  • Assist marketing with claims, product stories, training materials, and technical expertise.
  • Review artwork, labeling, and product communication for accuracy and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years experience in product development within beauty, skincare, or personal-care industries.
  • Strong understanding of formulation science, ingredient functionality, and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of global regulatory requirements for cosmetics and personal-care products.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
