Principal Mining Engineer - Kédougou

We are looking for a Principal Mining Engineer.

• Short term contract role to optimizes the value of Sabodala’ assets (operating and development) through mine design, mine scheduling, and optimization studies.
• The Principal Mining Engineer is responsible to provide strategic and operational expertise to the mine technical functions including planning, survey, geology, drill & blast area to ensure that the life of mine plans are prepared in a structured, accurate and timely manner to improve overall productivity of the company.
• The Principal Mining Engineer will also provide management, leadership and direction to open pit mine planning team to ensure approved mine plans are safely and efficiently achieved or exceeded.
• A focus on innovation and continuous improvement to achieve and exceed industry best practices in terms of safety, productivity and cost.
• Engage with all supporting departments to ensure mine plans are achieved and where issues are evident, mitigation plans are in place.
• Generate plans, schedules, budgets and forecasts (physical/financial) to control all aspects of the open pit mining and earthmoving operations. 
• Provide back up for Technical Services Manager when required.

Responsibilities:

• Review the LOM Plan and ensure that rolling forecasts (5 years to 13 weeks) are accurately developed to meet mining targets.
• Work with the Geologists, the Planning Engineers and the process team to review geology block models (reserves and Grade Control) and planning inputs parameters (cost models, Geotech, process inputs, etc.) to ensure that all inputs are correctly interpreted  throughout the planning process.
• Identify and implement business improvement opportunities, including future operations and processes.
• Review and approve production schedules, operational plans, and medium-term planning for the mine.
• Investigate and lead effective improvement projects for open pit mining activities by working with other disciplines across site.
• Drive and promote a positive safety culture onsite through initiatives that include visible felt leadership, SAOs and regular inspections.
• Review operational safety, production and cost performance against targets and make improvements where required.
• Contribute to the professional development of the national workforce through mentoring, coaching and training.
