Overview
We are looking for a Preschool Assistant Teacher.
The Assistant Teacher actively supports classroom functioning, children's safety, wellbeing, development, and learning while delivering our School's practice and values. You will create a welcoming environment that fosters respect for children’s ideas, feelings, abilities, and differences. Key qualities include the ability to move and react quickly in emergencies and flexibility to adapt to changes in schedules or environments.

Key Responsibilities
Classroom Preparation and Environment

  • Prepare first-day slides and capture videos of new children settling in during the first week.
  • Label children's cubbies with names and photos; display family photos in the classroom.
  • Set up indoor and outdoor environments with centers covering the 7 areas of the  framework.
  • Create invitations to play/provocations alongside the Lead Teacher.
  • Update classroom displays to reflect current learning and projects; display documentation, artworks, and models creatively and error-free.
  • Organize classroom, storage, and resources; report damages and handle termly stock intake as a team.

Observations, Planning, and Documentation

  • Observe and record children daily using written observations, photos, videos, audios, and narratives.
  • Conduct daily observations on individual needs, referencing child development frameworks to inform planning.
  • Complete daily reflections, planning, and weekly adult-led activity planners.
  • Add new resources based on observations, reflections, and ongoing projects.
  • Organize children's photos into individual folders and create child portfolios (printing labels, arranging items).
  • Write reports and document learning taking place in the classroom, including posting daily photos on Storypark.

Child Engagement and Support

  • Implement child-led and emergent practices daily, informed by school approach, emergent curriculum, and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Engage children in child-centered interactions, from open-ended play to structured activities, following their interests.
  • Lead adult-led activities such as cooking, along with other structured sessions.
  • Apply positive discipline and behavior management; correct and inform Lead Teacher on challenging behaviors or unsafe positioning.
  • Support children needing extra help (e.g., ESL learners, toilet training, new/transitioning children).
  • Assist with personal care, diapering, toilet training, sunscreen/repellent application, naps, and health/safety inspections on arrival.

Communication and Administration

  • Communicate with parents via School App updates, read-to-me books, weekly emails (especially during school camps), and stay-and-play activities.
  • Assist Lead Teacher with team meetings for weekly reflections and planning.
  • Research challenging topics or behaviors; create/enrich resources for activities.
  • Purchase resources and ingredients for adult-led activities (e.g., weekly cooking).
  • Send photos to coordinator for social media; complete timely organizational records.
  •  Care for class electronics (laptop, phone, speaker)—charge them personally and never hand over to helpers.
