Position : Head Teacher / Principal - Accra

The school's administration and day-to-day activities will be under the principal's control. Planning, leading, and coordinating the school's academic and extracurricular activities will fall within the purview of this position. The headteacher will also meet with staff members and parents to talk about academic programs, policies, and any behavioural or academic issues that students may be experiencing. The school's founding vision and ideals will be promoted by the principal through the curriculum. 

  • Determine the scope of educational activities, review new textbooks, develop the curriculum for each class, and partner with teaching staff to determine how the curriculum will be executed. 
  • As an educational administrator, make key decisions about budgets, staffing levels, and co-curricular programs with the ultimate goal of improving student learning outcomes.
  • Monitor students’ progress and provide students and teachers with assistance in resolving any problems. 
  • Set educational standards and goals and help establish policies, procedures, and programs to carry them out. 
  • Engage in ongoing assessment and evaluation of policies, procedures, and programs, and implement change to achieve maximum efficiency and effectiveness. 
  • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate staff and recommend developmental activities for programs and services. 
  • Supervise, lead, and support teaching and administrative staff. 
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment at all times. 
  • Allocate funds for staff, supplies, materials, and equipment. 
  • Authorise purchases and manage the budget. 
  • Work with parents as needed for their child’s development and education. 
  • Ensure the school is in compliance with state requirements at all times (GES, NASIA, Social Welfare, Fire Service, Municipal Assembly, etc.). 
  • Attend school functions after hours, such as plays, graduation ceremonies, Christmas programs, PTA meetings, and school board meetings.
  • Arrange for class coverage in case of teacher absence. 
  • Work with Social Welfare and other agencies on pupil/personnel problems. 
  • Meet with teachers, pupils, and parents/guardians as needed. 
  • Assume responsibility for coordinating student/teacher and student/observer assignments.
  • Attend monthly board meetings when requested. 
  • Maintain an effective, positive working relationship with staff. 
  • Portray an effective role model for staff, students, parents/guardians, and community members. 
  • Be knowledgeable of new educational trends. 
  • Perform other duties which may be assigned by his/her superior(s) under the authority of the Board of Education.

Required profile for job ad : Head Teacher / Principal - Accra

A minimum of a bachelor's degree in education or any related course. A Master's degree in education or any related course is an added advantage. 

  • Managerial or supervisory experience
  • Experience in early development education is required, with at least 5 to 10 years of teaching experience in a group program for children under six years of age, which may include supervised practice teaching and/or student teaching. 
  • Private and public school experience preferred. 
  • Experience with special needs children 
  • Must possess CPR and First Aid skills 
  • Creativity, initiative, flexibility, and strong communication skills are essential. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact and communicate effectively with parents, children, staff, and stakeholders 
  • Must have the stamina and physical flexibility to participate in children's activities and communicate with children face to face. 
  • Must demonstrate a sense of love and understanding of children 
  • Must be technology savvy and proficient in Microsoft Office programs.

This position reports to the school directors. Salary commensurate with experience.
