Position : RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) Engineer - Nairobi

We are looking for a RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
RTU Engineering & Configuration

  • Configure, program, and test RTUs for substation and power automation projects
  • Develop and maintain RTU logic, databases, and communication configurations
  • Integrate RTUs with SCADA systems and other substation equipment

Substation Project Support

  • Participate in substation automation projects from design through commissioning
  • Interface with protection relays, meters, bay controllers, and other IEDs
  • Support site installation, FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities

Communication & Protocols

  • Implement and troubleshoot communication protocols such as IEC 60870-5-101/104, IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus
  • Ensure reliable data acquisition and control between field devices and control centers

Testing & Documentation

  • Prepare and review engineering documents, IO lists, signal mappings, and test procedures
  • Conduct functional testing and resolve system issues during commissioning
  • Maintain accurate as-built documentation

Coordination & Compliance

  • Coordinate with project managers, OEMs, and site teams
  • Ensure compliance with L&T standards, client specifications, and safety requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Control Engineering
  • 5–10 years of proven experience as an RTU Engineer
  • Strong experience in substation projects (highly preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with RTUs from leading OEMs (e.g., Siemens, ABB, Schneider, GE, SEL, or equivalent)
