As part of our commitment to continuous improvement and workforce capability development, we seek an experienced Training and Development Manager to lead learning and development initiatives across the organization.
Job Summary
The Training and Development Manager is responsible for identifying skills gaps, designing and implementing training programs, and building employee capabilities to support operational excellence, safety, and long-term business growth. The role ensures that employees at all levels possess the technical, leadership, and compliance skills required in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Training Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive training and development strategy aligned with company goals and operational requirements.
  • Conduct training needs assessments across departments, including production, maintenance, quality, supply chain, and management.
  • Prepare annual training plans and budgets and ensure effective utilization of training resources.

Program Design & Delivery

  • Design, coordinate, and deliver technical, safety, operational, and soft skills training programs.
  • Coordinate induction and onboarding programs for new employees.
  • Support leadership and supervisory development programs.
  • Work with external training providers, technical institutes, and consultants as required.

Manufacturing & Safety Training

  • Ensure employees receive mandatory training related to occupational health and safety, equipment operation, quality standards, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support skills development in lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and productivity initiatives.

Performance & Evaluation

  • Establish training effectiveness metrics and evaluate program impact on employee performance and operational results.
  • Maintain accurate training records, certifications, and competency matrices.
  • Support performance management and succession planning initiatives.

Collaboration & Support

  • Partner with department heads and supervisors to support on-the-job training and coaching.
  • Advise management on workforce capability development and skills retention strategies.

Qualifications
Education & Professional Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Education, Business Administration, Industrial Psychology, or a related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification or professional certification in Training & Development or HR (e.g., CIPD, SHRM) is an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 5–8 years’ experience in training and development, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience designing and delivering technical and safety-related training programs.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong instructional design and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations, safety standards, and labor regulations in Uganda is an advantage.

Working Conditions

  • Office-based with regular interaction on the factory floor.
  • Occasional travel to training institutions or partner sites.
