Position : Logistics Operator - Harare

Position Overview
Star International is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Logistics Operator to join our dynamic team. This role is critical to ensuring the seamless movement of goods through our supply chain network, from initial transport booking through to final delivery and reconciliation. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a comprehensive understanding of logistics operations and customs procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Transport Management

  • Source, negotiate with, and manage relationships with transport service providers to secure competitive rates and reliable service
  • Coordinate and execute transport bookings across various modes (road, rail, sea, air) ensuring optimal routing and cost-efficiency
  • Arrange collection and delivery schedules in alignment with customer requirements and operational timelines
  • Track shipments in real-time and proactively monitor progress against planned schedules
  • Conduct regular follow-ups with transporters to ensure on-time performance and address any delays or issues
  • Maintain accurate records of all transport movements and associated documentation

Problem Resolution & Communication

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for transport-related queries and escalations
  • Investigate and resolve disputes with transporters regarding service delivery, damages, delays, or billing discrepancies
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders (warehousing, procurement, sales) to ensure alignment and resolve operational challenges
  • Escalate critical issues to management with recommended solutions

Compliance & Documentation

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of customs procedures and documentation requirements for import/export operations
  • Prepare, verify, and process CD3 (Customs Declaration) documentation ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Generate and manage manifests for all shipments, ensuring completeness and accuracy
  • Monitor and manage demurrage and detention charges, working to minimize costs through timely cargo movement and documentation processing
  • Ensure all transport documentation (PODs, waybills, customs documents) is complete, accurate, and filed appropriately

Reporting & Administration

  • Prepare and submit daily operational reports including shipment status, KPIs, exceptions, and cost summaries
  • Maintain up-to-date transport databases and tracking systems
  • Analyze transport performance data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities
  • Support month-end reconciliation processes and financial reporting related to logistics costs

We are looking for a highly experiences and qualified Logistics Operator who has Transport Brokering skills. The ideal candidate should have at least 2 to 3 years experience in a transport brokerage environment and should be ready to hit the ground running in this fast-paced industry. 
Required Qualifications
Essential

  • Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in logistics operations, freight forwarding, or transport coordination in a brokerage environment
  • Working knowledge of customs procedures and import/export documentation
  • Familiarity with CD3 forms and customs declaration processes
  • Understanding of demurrage, detention, and associated port/terminal charges
  • Strong knowledge of freight rates, transport routes, and carrier capabilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • High attention to detail and accuracy

Desirable

  • Diploma or certificate in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field
  • Experience with transport management systems (TMS) or logistics software
  • Knowledge of Incoterms and their practical application
  • Understanding of warehousing and distribution operations
  • Familiarity with dangerous goods regulations (if applicable to industry)
  • Experience in load planning and optimization
