Position : General Assistant - Secunda

Sasol Mining is currently seeking a General Assistant Mining Industry

The General Assistant provides support in various operational tasks within the mining environment. The role includes assisting with general labor, housekeeping, equipment handling, and following safety procedures to ensure efficient and smooth mining operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. General Labor & Housekeeping:
    • Perform cleaning and housekeeping duties in work areas, including removing debris and ensuring a safe workspace.
    • Assist in transporting materials, tools, and equipment to designated areas.
    • Support various teams in their daily activities as needed.
  2. Assisting Technicians & Operators:
    • Provide support to artisans, pipe fitters, welders, and other mining personnel.
    • Assist in setting up work areas, preparing tools, and ensuring materials are available.
    • Help with basic maintenance tasks under supervision.
  3. Safety & Compliance:
    • Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
    • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions.
    • Report any hazards, accidents, or unsafe conditions immediately.
  4. Equipment Handling & Support:
    • Operate basic hand tools and assist in moving heavy machinery or materials.
    • Ensure tools and equipment are stored properly and maintained.
    • Assist with loading and offloading of supplies and materials.
  5. Other General Duties:
    • Carry out any additional tasks assigned by the supervisor or team leader.
    • Support operational efficiency by being flexible and proactive in duties.

    Desired Experience & Qualification
    Education:

    • Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate
    • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.

    Experience:

    • Previous general labor experience in the mining, construction, or industrial sector (advantageous).
    • Basic knowledge of tools and equipment used in mining operations (advantageous).

    Skills & Competencies:

    • Physically fit and able to perform manual labor.
    • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
    • Good communication skills.
    • Willingness to learn and adapt to different tasks.

    Additional Requirements:

    • Medically fit for mining work (must pass medical fitness test).
    • Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and in remote mining locations.
    • Ability to work in confined spaces and harsh environmental conditions.
