Description

Position : Mechanic - Wau

The Mechanic in Wau is in charge of preventive maintenance and repairs on ICRC vehicles and other logistics equipment in accordance with guidelines from headquarters and manufacturers’ recommendations. His/her responsibilities include overseeing and dispatching vehicles in safe, objective-driven, economical manner and organizes driver’s assignments. Making petty cash purchases when required, organizing storage spaces, receiving and dispatches cargo.
Accountabilities & Functional Responsibilities
Mechanic Responsibilities (70%)

  • Carries out repairs on trucks, light vehicles, generators, forklifts and other ICRC mechanical equipment according to ICRC guidelines.
  • Carries out services maintenance on ICRC vehicles, pumps and generators, according to internal and/or the manufacturer's preventive maintenance schedule and specifications.
  • Ensures that all service and repair forms are correctly filled out and forwarded for all jobs carried out.
  • Identify breakdowns on vehicles, generators and other fleet assets.
  • Road test vehicles to verify complaints and/or repair. Collaborate as necessary with drivers regarding issues or repairs.
  • Retrieve/repair/rescue broken down vehicles in the field and provide defects reports.
  • Ensures that spare parts and consumables stocks are kept at the agreed levels; takes part in placing orders for spare parts and equipment, carrying out stock taking and keeping job cards updated as required.
  • Ensures that technical and personal security standards are followed as regards their work.Assists with fuelling, management of the fuel station at the Yei office and cleaning vehicles where required.
  • Is responsible for tools or other property issued to them by the ICRC.
  • Actively assists in keeping inventory for the workshop and its stores as required.
  • Supervises, trains, and coaches the Mechanic's Helper.
  • Ensures proper record keeping of stored spare parts and tools

 
Manage the dispatch of vehicles and organizes driver’s assignments. (20%)

  • Independently works to ensure that the fleet resources are used in a rational manner.
  • Receives and assist to process FTF.
  • In coordination with the F&A Manager, organizes and plan drivers duties and assignments; dispatches the assigned vehicles (drivers and cars are sufficiently available, and efficiently utilized for daily tasks and field trips).
  • Ensures Management of keys for the fleet under supervision.
  • Checks that logbook are filled out appropriately by drivers and other vehicle users.
  • Ensure proper filling and filing of the fleet documents.
  • Ensure availability of accident forms, waiver & insurance in all vehicles, follow up all accident within and outside working hours involving ICRC asset and ensure accident reports are submitted on time.
  • Follows up breakdowns, complaints and other issues to the Vehicle Fleet Manager (Functional Supervisor) as well report security issues to the HoO.
  • Compiles and ensure coordination of in town movements by on duty drivers.
  • Follow up on the checking of the vehicles and cleanliness and take action accordingly.
  • Periodic assessment of the tools and first Aid box.

AirOps Responsibilities (10%)

  • Ensure pick-ups/deliveries to the airport as needed and in line with Welcome needs.
  • Validate the manifest from security offices at WAU Airport then give a copy of it to each one of them and to the Control Tower team and the fuelling company to refuel RED.
  • Coordinate «checking-in" RED passengers leaving WAU – check the manifest for accurate names and info – weigh their luggage and tag them and share the total weight with RED crew.
  • Weighs and tags checked baggage for RED flights, handling these items with care during the process.
  • Organizes refuelling for ICRC aircrafts as required.
  • Assist passengers requiring special attention i.e PRP, returnee patients

Required profile for job ad : Mechanic - Wau

Certification/education required.

  • Technical school degree or equivalent experience.
  • Good oral skills and basic reading and writing skills in English.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Driving license B.
  • Driving license C and D an asset.
  • Good command of English (both written and oral).
    • Professional experience required.​​​​​​​
  • 2-4 years proven professional work experience in similar role Knowledge of welding and electricity.
  • Experience working with generators.
  • Good knowledge of local area and dynamics.
  • Knowledge of boats and motorcycles and other thermal engines is an asset.
  • Experience with body repair and welding is an asset.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to security constraints, and cultural differences.
  • Adaptability and teaching skills with leadership skills.
  • Very good communication and negotiation skills and command of local language is desirable.
