We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a Transport Officer to join their growing operations team. This role plays a pivotal function in ensuring the efficiency, safety, and reliability of ground transport services across the company’s fleet of both company-owned and third-party (3P) trucks and trailers.
The Transport Officer will serve as a key point of contact for drivers, third-party logistics partners, and internal teams. The ideal candidate is not only experienced in managing transport operations but is also agile, analytical, and confident in taking ownership of critical fleet functions in a high-growth environment.
You will be responsible for overseeing the daily movement and performance of assigned vehicles, enforcing compliance with safety and operational protocols, and ensuring a superior service experience for customers and partners alike. Duties and Responsibilities
Fleet Operations & Load Management
- Supervise and coordinate the day-to-day transportation of cargo using both company-owned and third-party trucks and trailers.
- Plan, assign, and dispatch trucks for deliveries, ensuring timely loading, en route tracking, and delivery execution.
- Monitor the movement of vehicles using GPS tracking tools and Transport Management Systems.
- Conduct pre-departure and post-delivery inspections to confirm compliance with operational guidelines and safety standards.
- Troubleshoot in-transit issues, breakdowns, or delays and implement corrective measures promptly.
Driver & Third Party Partner Management
- Act as the direct supervisor for all assigned drivers and the operational liaison for contracted third-party transport providers.
- Schedule and conduct regular driver check-ins to enforce compliance and build rapport.
- Oversee onboarding, orientation, and continuous training programs for new and existing drivers and 3P partners.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with 3P partners to ensure performance, professionalism, and accountability.
- Evaluate the performance of individual drivers and third-party providers using structured KPIs and behavioural assessments.
Compliance & Safety Oversight
- Enforce adherence to national transport regulations, industry safety standards, and internal operating procedures.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure vehicles are roadworthy, properly documented, and legally compliant.
- Lead driver safety briefings and ensure full adoption of risk management protocols, including cargo securing, driver conduct, and emergency response.
- Document and investigate accidents or incidents; coordinate insurance and recovery procedures as needed.
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain comprehensive records for each assigned vehicle, including trip logs, fuel consumption reports, maintenance records, and driver schedules.
- Prepare and present operational performance reports, trend analysis, and management insights.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance delivery speed, reduce operational costs, and improve reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments (e.g., Maintenance, Customer Service, Finance, Tech) to ensure operational alignment.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Transport Management, Logistics, Supply Chain, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a transport operations role, preferably within a logistics, supply chain, or fleet management environment.
- Proven ability to manage multiple trucks and drivers in a fast-paced, complex operational setting.
- Deep understanding of Ghana’s transport landscape, including laws, compliance requirements, and logistics networks.
- Demonstrated success managing third-party logistics providers (3PLs) and contract transport vendors.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with GPS-based fleet tracking tools and Transport Management Systems (TMS).
- Strong report writing, data analysis, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English is required; fluency in local languages is an advantage.

Additional Requirements

- Must be comfortable with irregular hours, including early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends, based on operational needs.
