Position : School Nurse - Nairobi
Role Overview
The School Nurse is responsible for promoting and maintaining the health, safety, and wellbeing of students and staff. The role involves providing first aid and basic medical care, managing health records, supporting health education initiatives, and ensuring compliance with health and safeguarding standards within an international school environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Student Health & Medical Care
- Provide first aid and basic medical care to students and staff during school hours.
- Assess and manage minor illnesses and injuries, and respond effectively to medical emergencies.
- Administer prescribed medications in accordance with school policies and parental consent.
2. Health Monitoring & Records
- Maintain accurate, confidential medical records for students and staff.
- Monitor chronic health conditions and allergies, ensuring individual care plans are in place.
- Track and manage immunisation records in line with Ministry of Health and school requirements.
3. Health Promotion & Education
- Promote healthy lifestyles and wellbeing through health awareness programmes.
- Support school-wide initiatives related to hygiene, nutrition, and mental health.
- Provide guidance and advice to staff and parents on health-related matters.
4. Safeguarding & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Support child protection protocols and report health-related concerns appropriately.
- Liaise with external healthcare providers, hospitals, and emergency services when required.
5. Collaboration & Administration
- Work closely with school leadership, teachers, and support staff to support student wellbeing.
- Maintain the school clinic, including medical supplies and emergency equipment.
- Participate in health and safety drills, audits, and risk assessments.
Required profile for job ad : School Nurse - Nairobi
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognised institution.
- Valid and current registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
- Minimum of 5–8 years of nursing experience, preferably in a school or paediatric setting.
- Certification in First Aid, CPR, and Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Experience working in an international or multicultural school environment is an added advantage.
