Position : QA/QC Engineer (Mechanical and Electrical) - Accra

We are looking for a QA/QC Engineer (Mechanical and Electrical).
Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance & Control:

  • Implement and enforce the company's quality assurance and control procedures across all site activities
  • Develop and maintain project-specific Quality Assurance/Quality Control plans in alignment with project specifications and client requirements
  • Conduct regular inspections and tests on materials, equipment, and installation work to ensure compliance with approved specifications, drawings, and standards
  • Monitor and verify that all work is executed according to approved method statements and industry best practices

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Document all inspection and test results with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Maintain comprehensive QA/QC records, including inspection reports, test certificates, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and corrective action reports
  • Prepare and submit regular quality reports to management and clients as required
  • Ensure all quality documentation is properly filed and readily accessible for audits

Collaboration & Coordination:

  • Work closely with site engineers, project managers, and installation teams to implement effective quality management systems
  • Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure materials and workmanship meet specified quality standards
  • Participate in pre-installation meetings and technical discussions to identify potential quality issues proactively
  • Liaise with clients' representatives and consultants during inspections and quality reviews

Compliance & Standards:

  • Assist in internal and external audits and compliance checks
  • Ensure all activities comply with local regulations, international standards, and client specifications
  • Identify non-conformances and coordinate corrective and preventive actions
  • Monitor compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements as they relate to quality

Training & Development:

  • Provide training and technical support to site staff on quality standards, procedures, and best practices
  • Promote a culture of quality awareness throughout the project team
  • Share knowledge and lessons learned to drive continuous improvement

Technical Review:

  • Review shop drawings, method statements, and material submittals from a quality perspective
  • Participate in the review and approval process for materials and equipment prior to procurement
  • Conduct pre-installation checks to verify readiness and compliance with specifications

Required Qualifications
Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (for Mechanical position) or Electrical Engineering (for Electrical position), or a closely related engineering discipline
  • Degree must be from an accredited institution

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in quality assurance/quality control roles within the construction industry
  • Essential: Experience must be specifically in conventional construction projects such as:
    • Residential buildings (apartments, villas, housing complexes)
    • Commercial office buildings
    • Institutional buildings (schools, hospitals, government facilities)
    • Retail and hospitality projects
  • Strong preference for candidates with hands-on site experience rather than purely maintenance or operational backgrounds
  • Experience must include active involvement in project execution phases from foundation to completion

Industry Background:

  • Note: Candidates with backgrounds primarily in oil and gas, industrial plants, marine, or purely maintenance operations may not meet the requirements for these positions
  • The focus is on building services and conventional construction experience

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation
  • Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD 2D for reviewing drawings and markups
  • Familiarity with quality management systems and documentation procedures
  • Understanding of construction materials, installation methods, and testing procedures relevant to mechanical or electrical systems

Professional Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English
  • Strong interpersonal abilities to work effectively with diverse teams
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and standards
  • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high quality standards

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to quality assurance in construction (e.g., ISO 9001, local building codes, BS/ASTM standards)
  • Understanding of mechanical/electrical building services systems and their installation requirements
  • Familiarity with inspection and testing protocols for construction materials and installations
  • Knowledge of non-destructive testing methods where applicable

Desired Attributes

  • Professional certification in Quality Management (e.g., CQE, Six Sigma) is an advantage
  • Experience working on projects with international consultants and contractors
  • Proactive approach to identifying and resolving quality issues
