As part of our continued growth, we seek an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead procurement activities and ensure cost-effective, timely, and compliant sourcing of materials, services, and equipment.
Job Summary
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and controlling all purchasing and sourcing activities to support manufacturing operations. The role focuses on supplier management, cost optimization, contract negotiation, and ensuring uninterrupted supply of raw materials, components, and services while maintaining quality and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Sourcing

  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies aligned with production plans and company objectives.
  • Source, evaluate, and select suppliers for raw materials, components, spare parts, and services.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and contracts to achieve best value.
  • Ensure timely procurement to support production and prevent stockouts or operational delays.

Supplier Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local and international suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier performance in terms of quality, delivery, cost, and reliability.
  • Resolve supplier-related issues including delays, quality concerns, and contract disputes.

Inventory & Cost Control

  • Collaborate with Materials Planning and Warehouse teams to optimize inventory levels.
  • Monitor purchasing budgets and ensure procurement activities remain within approved limits.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, value engineering, and supplier consolidation.

Process & Compliance

  • Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements in Uganda.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records, purchase orders, and contracts within the ERP system.
  • Support audits and management reviews related to procurement activities.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, Finance, and Logistics teams to align purchasing with operational needs.
  • Support new product introductions by sourcing new materials and suppliers.

Leadership & Reporting

  • Lead, mentor, and develop purchasing and procurement staff.
  • Prepare and present procurement performance reports, KPIs, and cost analyses to management.

Qualifications
Education & Professional Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (e.g., CIPS, APICS, or equivalent) is an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 5–8 years of procurement experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience in supplier negotiation, contract management, and cost reduction initiatives.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong negotiation and commercial skills.
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making ability.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Working Conditions

  • Office-based with regular interaction on the factory floor and supplier visits as required.
