Position : Mechanical Engineer - Kampala

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer.
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, improving, and optimizing mechanical components, systems, and equipment used in the manufacturing process. This role supports production by troubleshooting mechanical issues, implementing engineering solutions, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality, and reliability across the plant.
Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement mechanical systems, equipment, and fixtures to support manufacturing operations.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and provide engineering solutions for mechanical failures or recurring issues.
  • Support new equipment installation, testing, and commissioning to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Develop and update technical drawings, BOMs, and documentation using CAD software.
  • Collaborate with production, maintenance, and quality teams to improve processes and reduce downtime.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction, energy savings, and process optimization.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance analysis to improve equipment reliability.
  • Support capital improvement projects and prepare engineering reports, proposals, and feasibility studies.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards in all engineering activities.
  • Evaluate suppliers, materials, and components to ensure suitability and cost-effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design or engineering within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor).
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, manufacturing processes, and engineering principles.
  • Experience with troubleshooting mechanical equipment and root-cause analysis.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of automation systems, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
  • Familiarity with reliability engineering (RCM, FMEA) and project management tools.
  • Exposure to CNC machining, tooling, or fabrication processes.

Work Environment

  • On-site role with frequent interaction on the production floor.
  • May require occasional overtime or weekend support during equipment commissioning or major projects.
