Position : IT Support Technician - Johannesburg

We are seeking a skilled and proactive IT Support Technician to join our team at our Randburg, Cresta location. This position is responsible for resolving technical issues related to hardware, software, and networking, ensuring the smooth operation of our organization’s IT infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess strong troubleshooting skills, a deep understanding of various operating systems, and the ability to configure and secure network devices and systems.
As an IT Support Technician, you will provide critical support to internal users, monitor network performance, manage IT security, and deploy essential hardware and software solutions. This role also involves maintaining server reliability, troubleshooting network outages, and implementing firewalls and other security measures to safeguard organizational data.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting:

  • Resolve hardware, software, and peripheral issues for users across various systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across multiple operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux).
  • Provide timely support for basic network connectivity issues such as WiFi and LAN.
  • Handle user support requests via phone, email, and remote tools, ensuring quick issue resolution.
  • Document support procedures, troubleshooting steps, and solutions for future reference.

Hardware & Software Deployment:

  • Deploy and configure new hardware (PCs, printers, peripherals) and software solutions.
  • Manage routine system maintenance, including OS upgrades, patches, and user account setups.
  • Track hardware and software inventory and oversee the disposal of outdated equipment.

Network Infrastructure & Security:

  • Plan, configure, and manage network infrastructure (LAN, WAN, wireless) to meet organizational needs.
  • Deploy, configure, and secure network devices, such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Monitor and maintain network performance to ensure optimal speed and connectivity.
  • Resolve network outages and performance issues with minimal downtime.
  • Implement, manage, and maintain security measures, including firewalls and access control policies.
  • Respond to security incidents, monitor network traffic, and conduct forensic analysis as needed.
  • Develop and enforce security policies to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments, implement patches, and ensure security compliance.

VoIP & Server Management:

  • Design, deploy, and monitor VoIP systems (PBX, SIP trunks), ensuring performance and troubleshooting issues.
  • Secure and integrate VoIP systems with other tools as necessary.
  • Deploy, configure, and manage physical and virtual servers, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Manage and maintain databases to ensure optimal performance, availability, and security.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Ensure continuous network security by managing firewalls, configurations, updates, and monitoring.

Collaborate with other IT team members to improve processes and resolve complex technical challenges
Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Diploma in IT or a related field.
  • Experience: 2-3 years of experience as an IT/Network Technician.
  • Certifications:
    • Required: CompTIA Network+ (N+) or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or other relevant network certifications.
    • Preferred: MTCNA certification (not required but hands-on experience with Mikrotiks  is favorable).
  • Hands-on experience with Mikrotiks and Netgear network devices.
  • Proven experience in IT support, network management, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong proficiency with multiple operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux).
  • Solid experience in managing network infrastructure (LAN, WAN, wireless), including deployment and security.
  • Hands-on experience with deploying and managing routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices.
  • Familiarity with VoIP system design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of database management and server deployment (both physical and virtual).
  • Understanding of IT security measures, including firewalls, security protocols, and vulnerability management.
  • Ability to resolve network issues efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills for providing remote and in-person technical support.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and an understanding of how they integrate into IT support.
