Job Description
The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer at GreenGate Foods is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health, safety, and environmental management systems to ensure compliance with Ghanaian regulations, food safety standards, and company policies. The role supports a safe, hygienic, and environmentally responsible food processing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety

  • Develop and enforce workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, risk assessments, and hazard identification within the production facility.
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, and use of machinery, chemicals, and raw materials.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Lead safety training and awareness programs for employees.
  • Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Environment

  • Monitor and manage environmental impacts such as waste disposal, effluent management, and emissions.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards set by EPA Ghana.
  • Promote environmental sustainability initiatives, including waste reduction and energy efficiency.

Compliance & Food Safety Support

  • Support compliance with food safety standards such as GMP, HACCP, and ISO 22000.
  • Maintain accurate HSE records, reports, and documentation.
  • Coordinate with regulatory bodies and auditors during inspections.
  • Ensure emergency preparedness, including fire safety and evacuation procedures.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Professional HSE certification is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 5–8 years’ experience in HSE, preferably in food processing or manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of Ghanaian health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Familiarity with food safety systems (HACCP/GMP).
  • Strong communication, training, and report-writing skills.
