Position : Head of Department (HOD) - Nairobi
We are looking for a Head of Department (HOD).
Role Overview
The Head of Department (HOD) provides academic leadership within a specific subject area or faculty, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment. The role includes curriculum management, staff mentorship, performance monitoring, and the promotion of a positive learning environment aligned with international education standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Academic Leadership
- Lead the development and implementation of the department’s curriculum in line with international standards (e.g. IB, Cambridge, British curriculum).
- Monitor the quality of teaching and ensure consistent curriculum delivery.
- Promote innovative teaching strategies and the effective use of educational technology.
2. Staff Management & Development
- Mentor, support, and evaluate teaching staff within the department.
- Identify professional development needs and coordinate relevant training or coaching sessions.
- Foster a collaborative, motivated, and high-performing team culture.
3. Student Learning & Assessment
- Oversee planning, assessment, and reporting of student progress.
- Analyse academic performance data to enhance teaching effectiveness and student outcomes.
- Provide academic guidance and support to students when required.
4. Administration & Communication
- Manage departmental resources, including teaching materials and budgets.
- Coordinate with school leadership on academic planning, timetabling, and inspections.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding departmental programmes, policies, and student progress.
5. Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to school-wide curriculum development initiatives.
- Stay up to date with educational research, best practices, and subject-specific developments.
- Lead departmental initiatives aimed at improving student engagement and learning outcomes.
Required profile for job ad : Head of Department (HOD) - Nairobi
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or in a relevant subject area.
- Teaching qualification recognised by the Ministry of Education or international accrediting bodies.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of teaching experience, with 2–3 years in a leadership role preferred.
- Proven experience with international curricula (IB, Cambridge, British) is highly desirable.
