Your mission
The General Manager oversees all commercial and operational activities in South Africa, ensuring profitable growth, operational excellence, and sustainable expansion into neighbouring markets. This role combines strategic leadership, hands-on management, and business development responsibilities.
Roles and responsibilities
1. Strategy & Business Development
- Define and implement the local strategy in alignment with group objectives.
- Identify growth opportunities in new markets, distribution partnerships, or local manufacturing.
- Develop the company’s footprint in South Africa through strong partnerships and brand positioning.
2. Product Range Management
- Define and manage a coherent and profitable product portfolio combining imported and locally sourced products.
- Analyze customer demand, product performance, and competitive dynamics to adjust the assortment.
- Work closely with suppliers and local manufacturers to ensure product quality, consistency, and innovation.
- Ensure the alignment between commercial strategy, operational feasibility, and product availability.
3. Sales & Marketing
- Drive revenue and margin growth through key account management and business development.
- Negotiate with clients, distributors, and suppliers.
- Ensure customer satisfaction and retention through service excellence.
- Implement marketing and promotional initiatives to increase visibility and sales.
4. Operations & Supply Chain
- Supervise import, logistics, warehousing, and local production activities.
- Optimize costs, processes, and inventory levels.
- Guarantee compliance with local regulations, food safety, and group standards.
5. Team Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary team.
- Establish clear goals, KPIs, and performance reviews.
- Build a positive, accountable, and customer-oriented culture.
6. Finance & Administration
- Manage budgets, P&L, and cash flow.
- Provide accurate reporting to headquarters.
- Monitor profitability and identify improvement levers.
- Liaise with auditors, banks, and authorities.

Experience
- 5 to 8 years of experience in B2B sales in the food industry, ideally in the bakery, pastry, catering or FMCG premium sector.
- Proven experience managing a P&L and driving business growth.
- Background in emerging markets preferred.
- Good understanding of the cold chain and operational constraints.
