Position : Environmental Ecosystems Officer - Harare
About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and technically skilled Environmental Ecosystems Officer to support the protection, management, and restoration of natural ecosystems. This role focuses on ecosystem assessment, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable land and resource management. The ideal candidate brings strong scientific knowledge, field experience, and the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders to drive measurable environmental impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, assess, and report on the health of ecosystems, habitats, and biodiversity
- Support the design and implementation of ecosystem conservation and restoration programs
- Conduct field surveys, data collection, and environmental impact assessments
- Analyze ecological data and prepare technical reports, recommendations, and compliance documentation
- Support biodiversity protection initiatives and climate resilience strategies
- Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, researchers, and local communities
- Ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and best-practice standards
- Contribute to environmental education, outreach, and stakeholder engagement activities
- Support grant reporting, project documentation, and performance tracking
Required profile for job ad : Environmental Ecosystems Officer - Harare
Required Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in ecosystem management, conservation, or environmental monitoring
- Strong understanding of ecosystem dynamics, biodiversity, and environmental sustainability principles
- Experience conducting fieldwork and environmental assessments
- Ability to analyse and interpret environmental data and translate findings into actionable insights
- Familiarity with environmental regulations, permitting, and compliance requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently in field conditions and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Ecology, Environmental Management, or a related discipline
- Experience with GIS, remote sensing, or environmental modelling tools
- Knowledge of climate adaptation, nature-based solutions, or restoration ecology
- Experience working with community-based conservation initiatives
